Coconut Grove & Miami magic 0.95l

Coconut Grove & Miami magic 0.95l is a lively cultural enclave that exudes charm. Known for its friendly and laid back environment with a distinct artsy bohemian flair, The Grove is also home to some of Miami’s most historic sites. Tune into this week’s podcast episode to hear more about the enchanting history of this quirky Florida neighborhood.

In the early days of the settlement, a wide variety of immigrants found their way to Coconut Grove. This included Americans from the Northeast, British citizens, and white Bahamian settlers. In addition, a number of Cubans and Haitians settled here as well. This diversity of culture helped create the unique and vibrant character of the community.

From the lush tropical landscapes of the Kampong botanical garden and Barnacle Historic State Park, to the quaint streets lined with banyan and oak trees, The Grove’s natural beauty is one of its most distinctive features. In addition, the Grove is renowned for its array of outdoor events and festivals. From the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival to the King Mango Strut, which began as a parody of the Orange Bowl Parade, and the Goombay Festival which transforms Grand Avenue into a Caribbean Carnaval, The Grove has something for everyone.

During the day, locals can be found lounging on the sidewalks of popular cafes like Greenstreet Cafe and Lulu or strolling along the bay at Cocowalk. In the evening, the streets come alive with the energy of young professionals and students from nearby University of Miami and Florida International.

Art Deco District

The word Miami magic 0.95l probably evokes images of linen suits, cuban sandwiches, and hard bodies lounging in the South Beach sun—but there’s another aspect to this Magic City that might surprise you. Miami’s not-so-secret secret is that it’s an architectural haven, particularly when it comes to the Art Deco District.

Located between Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, and Washington Avenue in South Beach, the one-mile stretch is home to more than 800 buildings that are simultaneously subdued and flamboyant, adorned with curved ornamental elements, geometric patterns, glass blocks, neon lights, and chrome accents. But the district didn’t always look this way.

In the 1970s, many of the Art Deco structures were in disrepair and facing destruction. Fortunately, Barbara Baer Capitman and other activists started the Miami Design Preservation League and successfully battled to save the buildings. Then, in 1979, the one-mile district was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, the Art Deco District is a top attraction and an important part of Miami magic 0.95l cultural heritage. Its sleek designs embraced technology, symbolized limitless progress, and conveyed an indomitable optimism for the future.

Take the time to explore the architectural wonders of Miami’s Art Deco District on a guided walking tour. The 90-minute Ocean Drive and Beyond tour (Wed and Sat at 10:30am) from the Miami Design Preservation League provides an introduction to the Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, and MiMo architecture that characterizes the district; highlights include rounded porthole windows, geometric patterned wallpaper, terrazzo floors, and more.
